Ft. Lauderdale - embarkation

Wednesday - Jan 24 - Ft. Lauderdale

Check in was as we expected with the compressed boarding times. We stopped for lunch in West Palm Beach before continuing on to the port. (we should have been enjoying the welcome aboard buffet on the ship....) Greg dropped me and the luggage at the port while he returned the rental car. The vans that take you to the port from the rental car agency had a long line of people, so Greg walked the short distance back to the port.
We got in the Priority boarding line and it was moving slowly until it came to a complete stop. The check in was backed up so they had us wait before going through security. Once through security the line went really slow. Once we got checked in and got to the waiting room they had just cleared the ship for boarding and were letting anyone with a black elite card board.
So, we proceeded onto the ship and found our cabin. It was 3:30 when we got to the cabin. Interesting layout of the room. The closet is large which is nice, narrow passage past the bed to get to the desk and the balcony. No loveseat which is different; just the desk chair and a round table and another chair. The Island has the upgraded beds and linens so the beds are like sleeping on big puffy clouds.

Luggage took a while to come, but we got it all before dinner and had most of it unpacked before we went to dinner. Considering the late boarding they did very well getting the luggage to the staterooms.
We chose open seating which has pros and cons. We like not having a set time to eat dinner, but then you have different waitstaff and tablemates and the service can be slower.
We finished unpacking after dinner and then went to the evening entertainment which was a comedian named Scott Harris. We saw him before on the 2017 WC. Only the one showing at 9:30, and he was pretty funny, despite having seen his act before. We were tired and it was bed time.
We look forward to the next 2 Sea Days!
The Captain is quite visible. He walks through the buffet area and greets people and through the dining room at lunch and dinner to say hello to each table. Captain Michele Tuvo aka "Captain Bye Bye" as every announcement ends with a cute bye bye!
I tried to add photos to this blog and not even 1 will upload. Yikes! So, I may not even be able to add even a couple per blog this trip. So, you will have to use my Google (Picasa archive) Photos. We haven't taken many photos of the ship yet, but will take more over time.

Here are some of our cabin and the ship:
