Sea Day

OK, I'm sure you have wondered if we fell overboard, but my computer "crashed" and restoring it on the ship is almost impossible with the slow internet. The most recent Windows 10 update "broke" both of our computers (before we came on the cruise) Greg was able to fix them by rolling them back to before the update, but of course the update is going to come again. (despite being set to not allow it) So, mine did it on the day we were circling Devil's Island and Greg has been trying to restore it every day since. I'm without MS Word and Excel, but thankfully everything I had prepared for the blog (and more important things of course) have been saved to Wordpad. I had just finished organizing the photos and was going to upload those right before it happened. Luckily, I was able to restore Picasa and they were still there. We travel with full backups so, we can at least recover what was there before we left the cruise. I will need to back up daily (if my computer doesn't die again) to make sure nothing is lost. Greg is waiting to see if it happens to him again. We both have Dell laptops, but different models.

When, I managed to check emails, I had a couple from Scott & Sonya that Dad has been in the hospital and needed his gallbladder removed. I managed to call both of them during our tour in Fortaleza, Brazil. Ironically, Dad said the doctor that did his surgery was from Brazil. He is doing as well as can be expected and should go home in a day or two.

We now have 3 days at Sea before we visit Ilhabela, Brazil so hope to get all caught up.

Thursday February 1

Wow, our first day without rain (mostly) and it’s a Sea Day. I’ll take it though! Spent some time today working on the blog posts to get them ready to upload. The internet on this ship is the worst we have ever seen. Our cabin is near a hot spot, but it isn’t working. We reported it, so we’ll see if they can fix it. Even going to other areas on the ship hasn’t helped much. Now, to work on photos and see if I can get those finished before our next port.

Had lunch at the buffet today and it was pretty good. Lots more variety and better quality than on Pacific Princess (2017, as 2013 it was better). Just not as much variety on the smaller ship, though they did so some nice themed lunches such as Chinese, Japanese or Mexican, which we haven't seen happen on this cruise.

Today we set our clocks ahead another hour at Noon again.

In the afternoon we watched the movie Papillon which helped visualize what Devil’s Island would be like. It had been many years since I had seen it, so it was like watching it for the first time. (Steve McQueen & Dustin Hoffman)

Tonight’s entertainment was Mark Merchant, a ventriloquist. He was very funny. We have noticed that the show times have changed. It was 7:30 or 9:30 and now it’s 6:30 or 8:30. It seems early dining was taking so long you couldn’t make the show and for the late dining they had to go too late. So, this seems to be working better for the majority, though it does overlap with the game shows.

Tomorrow we cruise around Devil’s Island.
