New Orleans, Louisiana - Day 3

Sept 25

We didn't have much of a plan today other than to wander the French Quarter and eat. We chose to walk to the French Quarter since the HOHO takes 2 hours round trip and the parking lot is stop 5 and the French Quarter is stop one, so it takes a long time to get there. Unfortunately, it was quite a rainy day, all day for the most part, but there were a few breaks where it only drizzled.

Café du Monde
We started with beignets at Café Du Monde which were awesome.

We had lunch at the French Market at the Hart Café and the crabcakes were great.

After lunch we wandered our way to Brennan's for dessert.

Banana’s Foster was invented at Brennan’s. They closed at 2:00 so we made it in time. They reopen again for dinner. It had been pouring rain and we ducked in and out trying to stay dry. We told the
maitre d' that we only wanted dessert and we were seated in the bar. We ordered the Bananas Foster and they make it tableside. We both were a bit disappointed in it since the bananas did not caramelize and the ice cream melted instantly and just wasn’t up to par.

Scott and Sonya, you may remember that I make a "bananas foster French toast" Not quite the same sauce, but similar idea on ice cream.

Since it was raining we walked to the Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium. It was pretty well done and they also had a butterfly room where you walk amongst them. We finished with the move which was a bit like Disney’s “It’s Tough to be a Bug” except it was not 3-D, but did have spritzes of water and things that poked you in the back and the bottom. Fun.

We walked to the French Market and picked up a couple of praline shoe soles for later that night and then took the HOHO back to the car.
