Governor's Mansion, Old & New Capitols - Jackson, Mississippi

September 20

We started at the Old Capitol, but the lady said we should head straight to the Governor’s Mansion since their last tour of the day was starting in 5 minutes. So, we walked the 2 blocks over there and a nice lady gave us a tour (she was waiting for us) Beautiful restored Greek Revival home. The volunteer said she was headed to the New Capitol since she worked there in the afternoon. No photos were allowed in the Mansion.

It was lunch time so we headed to the Pig & Pint. We decided to try one last BBQ place as we soon will be out of “that part of the country”. We tried the Pig & Pint and it was pretty darn good. We split a platter of ribs, pulled pork and brisket. All were very good. For sides we had smoked mac & cheese and fried green tomatoes. YUM!  Way too much food, if we would have had a cooler we could have taken home the leftovers. But, today we didn’t have a small one with us.

Gotta love the South where Mac & Cheese is a vegetable....

We then went back to the Old Capitol and toured the museum there.

Then we walked about 4 blocks to the New Capitol and we were a half hour too late for their afternoon tour and we had planned to self tour, but the same lady was there as she said she would be and didn’t have a tour yet, so she grabbed us and the one other guy that came at the same time and then 3 other people came in while we were at the beginning of the tour and she grabbed them and we all went on the tour. She had lots of interesting facts that we wouldn’t have known if we had self toured.

It was after 4:00 and we were still full and knew we would skip dinner, so we stopped for some ice cream for dessert and then stopped for some groceries and headed home.
Tomorrow, we are going to drive a small part of the Natchez Trace Parkway.
