June 14 Contadora Island & Return Ferry to Panama City

Our plan for today was to do some exploring on the beach and around the island until we had to be at the ferry at 2:30. We woke to just a sprinkling of rain.

Sonya had been up sick all night and she slept in. The rest of us had breakfast prepared by the lady that cooks, serves and I think she was the one that also cleaned the rooms.

The 3 of us set out to go check out the ruins of what used to be a resort that has been defunct for quite some time. It was still raining, but not hard.

We drove around the island for Scott to get any more photos he wanted and then went to the defunct resort so he could explore and get some photos. All 3 days we saw a lot of deer and agoutis.

Then, I started with stomach cramps and said I need to go back to the room NOW. Scott had the same issue the day before. We only had 10 minutes left on the golf cart anyway. Then, it started to POUR.

We told Tony he could just drop us at the ferry and we would hang out there until it was time to go. He said just keep the golf cart and add a gallon of gas for the extra use (@ $7.00 a gallon). He said to just come back and hang out at the Inn until it was time for him to drive us to the ferry.

So we went to lunch and hung out there as long as we could. It was still raining hard. I was feeling a bit better, but Sonya was still feeling horrible and didn’t eat. We told her to put her head down and sleep if she wanted to. She did. Greg was doing better than the rest of us, but he did have some severe cramps that came and went fast. Sony & I said they felt like labor pains. We hung out there as long as we could hoping the rain would slow, but it didn't.

We ate at the new restaurant at Gerald's B&B. When it was run by Gerald's the food was really good, but it's now run by Perla Real and the food was barely "OK".

Finally, it was time to go back and get our luggage and have Tony drive us to the ferry. Tony went the extra mile and got out trash bags to wrap our luggage in so it wouldn't get soaked. He made sure we had chairs to sit on while we waited for the ferry to board.

We waded out in the rain and got on the boat to take us to the ferry (same guy that took us snorkeling) It was one of the older ferries this time, which turned out to be good since the other one had very cold A/C and with the rain we really needed to sit inside. Most of us slept quite a lot of the trip back.

We checked back into the Country Inn & Suites (they kindly let us leave our car in their parking lot at no charge while we visited Contadora). We all felt quite a bit better so we went to Amador Causeway to find food. We went to LeƱos y Carbon for dinner where Greg and I both got the steak skewers and Scott and Sonya had chicken dishes. The meals come with a lot of sides as well. Salad, arepa, baked potato and a sweet plaintain. There is a great view of the city at night from there. After dinner we walked along the waterway before driving back to the hotel.

If we had to pick a day to feel crappy and have bad weather, this was probably the best day to do it. Ha Ha

We were all excited for tomorrow's Jungle Land tour.
