Savannah, GA to Charleston, SC - Oak Plantation Campground

Wednesday the 23rd we said goodbye to Georgia as we drove to Charleston, South Carolina. It was a bit ironic that I was thinking of the song Georgia on My Mind when the next song on the radio was Rainy Night in Georgia.  (OK, not as ironic as the exact song being played…but it was about Georgia) We actually had a rain free drive for a change. However, there were Love Bugs galore and we could barely see out of the windshield. Florida had them twice a year, but it seems Georgia and South Carolina get them too. Love bugs are two connected insects sometimes called kissing bugs or honeymoon flies. They're everywhere this time of year. The large female drags (flies) the smaller male around by, well the part that connects them as they procreate in the air. They don’t bite or sting, but they can damage your vehicle due to the acidity of the insides of the bug. It actually works like an acid with the sunlight to eat away your paint. It can sometimes leave an imprint of the bug on the paint. Very hard to get off paint or even your windshield. (very sticky)

We are staying at Oak Plantation Park. It’s a large site with 221 sites spread over a huge area. Like the last place there is a large variety of RVs. There is one pond and they have a pool that oddly is right up front by the road.

We tend to do nothing other than travel on our travel days. We may grocery shop and will walk in the early evening if it's not raining.
We are getting a rhythm of preparing to leave and readying the coach and the toad to travel and arrival at a site reversing the process. Many things need to be stowed for travel besides the hooking up and unhooking of utilities. It really doesn’t take us long, but much like an airline pilot, there is a checklist to make sure every step is done in the correct order.

Tomorrow, we are doing a self-walking tour of the historic district of Charleston.

  1. Am just getting caught up on your blog again. So glad you're finally on the road again! Seems like the break downs have abated and you can enjoy your RV life. Always something to fix though, huh. Keep it coming! I'm really enjoying your travels.
