Ivy Acres RV Park - Piedmont, SC

Sept 6th we drove and arrived in some rain & a bit of wind. It was a short trip (90 miles), but 2 of our first choices in NC were fully booked so we stayed just below the border near Greenville, SC.
I tried to give you a feel for what it takes to get ready to depart each site. The morning of we double check that all the interior stuff is done and that the covers to the slides have been swept if needed. Then, we start the process of unhooking from sewer, water and electric. Turn off the hot water heater. (it's instant on like we had in Panama.- tankless) Then, we run through the checklist for starting the coach and bringing up the jacks and lowering the coach. Slides are brought in and the last thing we do is hook up the toad. Depending on the rules of the park we are in we stop and check out. (some just say it's OK to just leave.
Arrival at the next site we stop and check in at the RV office and get our site number. Some places give you nice maps of the park and even the surrounding area. Some list close stores that might be helpful. (Walmart, Grocery Store, Camping World and often local restaurants that they recommend) Sometimes, the toad is disconnected before we get to the site and other times it can come all the way with us. (there is NO backing up when your toad is attached, so careful planning so you don't get in a dead end situation) The, we start the leveling process (all automatic) and go through the checklist to shut everything down. Then, the electric outlet is checked with a volt meter and then we plug in. Once electric is on we turn on the A/C and lights if needed. Water is hooked up and then each faucet is run to get the air out. Water heater is turned back on. Sewer is hooked up and water is added to the toilets. (again, just the push of a button for one and step on the pedal for the other). I start putting out everything that was stowed and it really doesn't take long before we are "home".
When choosing parks we read a lot of reviews to get an idea of what others have experienced. Finding a park with fairly level spots is usually high on the list. The coaches auto level, but of course there is a limit. You don't want your rear wheels off the ground. (they are needed for your parking break....)
With the check out and in times, our travel is usually over lunch and if we don't have a rest stop that sells food in the itinerary we pre-make sandwiches and have a small cooler between us and we eat on the go.
We are staying in the Ivy Acres RV Park. It’s a nice park that’s large and spread out. (probably used to be a farm) We are in Piedmont close to Greenville. RVs aren’t close together and it’s wooded and quite pretty. There are no facilities (showers, bathrooms or dump stations) so every RV here must be self-sufficient. There are long term spots here and short term spots. It’s a Seniors only park (45+). 45?!? They pick up trash twice a day. Some parks are once a day and others don’t pick up at all, you have to take it to the dumpster yourself. Despite being in the woods, we have great TV & satellite service. (one place we stayed had neither…..)

As you can see in some of the photos it's a bit hilly here, but not bad. We lucked out and got the one spot that everyone including the owner here said was the most level.

It definitely is colder here. The Blue Ridge Mountain Range is close by. We opened the windows and it was comfortable. (we have been running A/C.) We waited for the rain to quit a bit and made a grocery store run.

We have been watching the path of the hurricane to see if we can stay here or need to bug out.

The evening was cold and we debated turning on the heat. Those that know me well, know that I really am not a cold weather gal. (Jim, you can stop laughing now.....)
It looks like we may only have a couple days of decent weather during this stop so we plan on driving to Asheville, NC to visit the Biltmore Estate. (the path of the hurricane keeps moving, so we will wing this week as what we can do when if at all)

  1. You are right backing up in a big rig is impossible with a car. You are wise to look for a level spot. When we stay with our little trailer we get to level it ourselves. lol

  2. Looks like a pretty park but you are essentially dry camping? Look to dump at the next stop?
