We took Saturday the 9th off. (in hindsight, we
should have waited until Monday to take a day off due to the weather)
Sunday, September 10th we visited Paris Mountain
State Park. It’s roots date as far back as the Great Depression, when it was
built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. This heritage can still be seen in
the preserved stone and timber outside of the renovated bathhouse, now known as
the Park Center. The mountain is a monadnock, a mountain that stands alone in
an area.

Today, was cool and breezy so not a comfortable day (for
me), plus it was a Sunday which of course brings out a lot of people that aren’t
there to enjoy the peace and quiet of the park. So, very few birds seen or
heard. We did see what looked like bear tracks next to a stream. We did the walk
around Lake Placid and a few side trails. They have concerts every Saturday
this time of year. I'm sure in hot weather this is a fantastic park and would have been packed with people enjoying the water.

Between the breezy cool weather and all the loud people, we
stopped at lunch time. We drove into Greenville to eat at the Swamp Rabbit Café.
This place was insanely busy. It sits at the trail head to the Swamp Rabbit
Trail. (for cyclists and walkers) It specializes in using only ingredients from
local farmers/people to make everything on their menu and sold at their store.
We opted for the wood fire pizzas at the Swamp Pizza as the line inside for
sandwiches was so long. If it had been a nice day it would have been pleasant
sitting outside, but the wind gusts didn’t make for a perfect setting. We
ordered pull apart garlic bread and a Three Little Piggies Pizza. All
ingredients were handmade and locally grown. It had bacon, sausage and
pepperoni.
looks burnt, but it really wasn't
OK, so all of a sudden we are seeing many things here with
the name Swamp Rabbit in them. So, of course I had to Google it to see if there
was such a thing. In case you were wondering the same, here you go…. The swamp
rabbit (Marsh Hare) is a large cottontail rabbit found in the swamps and
wetlands of the southern United States. Other common names for the swamp rabbit
include marsh rabbit and cane-cutter. The name means found in water and the
species has a strong preference for wet areas and will take to the water and
swim. Unfortunately, we didn’t see one.
We then checked out the Falls Park on the Reedy. What a
beautiful park! Right in the heart of Greenville in the revitalized main street
area. Out of the breeze it was pretty nice out. We walked around a few of the
trails before heading for gelato.

It was a great downtown area and if the weather would have been nicer (or me more tolerant) there would have been a lot of historical and interesting buildings to see.
Then, it was home to prepare for possibly 2 days of bad
weather due to the storm. We brought 2 of the slides in and left out the
bedroom slide until the next morning. The slides can handle a lot of wind, but
if you have slide covers (which ours does) they can whip around in the wind and
get destroyed. (or at least make a ton of noise) We have room to walk in the
living area with both slides in. The fridge door opens fine and we can get to
the sink and cooking area. The bedroom is fine with just the one slide on that
side in as it gives you room to walk by. With the small slide also in where the
bed is, you can’t walk by or open any doors or drawers in the closets. You can
crawl over the bed to use the bathroom in the back or the ½ bath is easy to get
to as it doesn’t move with the slides in. (nor does the full bathroom in the
back)
We’ll see what tomorrow brings……
