Irma has really left a path of destruction over quite a
large area of the South. (not to mention the Caribbean) We watched the news and the places where we had just visited have gotten
a lot of flooding and damage. (Florida, Georgia and the Low Country of South
Carolina and of course Houston is still reeling from Harvey) So, we were quite lucky that we are where we are now. Many of the RV
Parks where we stayed are closed until they can clean up and get power
restored. Oddly, here in Piedmont we didn’t even lose DISH. Normally, with just
a few drops of rain or a few trees we lose it. Our hearts go out to all those affected by the storms. Recovery is never fast enough.
Monday the 11th we did bring in the second
bedroom slide. It has rained all day/night with various windspeed gusts. It was
pretty cool out as well, but we stayed tucked in next to the fireplace. Sleeping
was interesting because when all the slides are in, the bed is in a sitting
up position. There is room for one person to sleep crosswise at the foot of the
bed. Greg slept on the couch.
Tuesday the 12th after a windy and rainy night we
put the slides back out this morning. The weather has calmed and though cloudy it is quite
nice out. We went out for lunch at Inky’s, an unassuming place in a strip mall
that was highly recommended for Philly Cheesesteaks. It was quite good! We ordered the small one.

We did
some grocery shopping and stopped for ice cream. We went for a short walk
around the RV park. We took one trail that ended up at a pond and there was a
large area that looks like is used for parties or picnics. (even some makeshift
bathrooms)
This afternoon we prepared for leaving for our next stop
which is Pinnacle, NC. It’s approximately 5 miles SSE of the town of Pilot
Mountain, between Pilot Mountain State Park and Hanging Rock State Park. It’s
close to Winston- Salem and is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway which we plan to
drive a bit of it. There also is Mt Airy which is where Andy Griffith was born.
His home town looks very much like Mayberry and is a tourist destination. We
will spend a week in that area.
We don’t have a stay planned for West Virginia,
but hope to at least get across the border during this stop. Then, we are off
to Raleigh, NC, then Suffolk, Virginia and then Fayetteville, NC. for a week in each place That’s all we
have set up so far as we work our way back to Florida. Trying to stay coastal
for warmer weather.
So glad you and your RV did well with the storm. Take care as your move on to your next destination.
