Raleigh Museum of Natural History - Raleigh, NC

Thursday Sep 21st, we visited the Raleigh Museum of Natural History. We thought we would spend a couple of hours at the museum, but we ended up staying all day and could have used at least another hour. There were 4 floors on one side of the street and 3 on the other. We didn't take a lot of photos but we really enjoyed exploring the many habitats that were 3 stories high demonstrating what animals and plants lived in certain environments. We said it was like actual birding as we searched for the various critters in each one. They had one room that had a lot of stuffed pelts where you could go in and touch them (skinned animal or bird and filled with cotton and sewn back up again.) A bit like taxidermy. They had a lot of taxidermy in their displays but also had quite a few live exhibits.

Exact replica of the Liberty Bell (without the crack) so when rung it sounds like what the Liberty Bell would sound like if it wasn't cracked. It weighs 2,080 lbs.

We stopped for a nice lunch in the area and stopped for a snack mid afternoon. It was a nice day in the city.
For dinner we went to the RV Parks' BBQ for $3.00 per person. It was 2 chili dogs with a bag of chips and fried pies for dessert. (choice of chocolate or apple). We sat with a nice couple that have been RVing most months of the year since 2013. They recently got a new 5th Wheel and we were exchanging stories of all the things that were wrong with our brand new units. They had issues with their auto leveling system. It was wired backwards! So, of course it wouldn't level right. We both had stories on how long it took to get things fixed. They told us that it really didn't matter where you took it as service has been bad for them no matter where they took it. Good to know..... We called Fleetwood about the backspash falling off the wall and they said it would be an easy fix. Easy for them to say. We called one of the places in the area they said we could take it and they told us they work on Fleetwoods, but not our particular model. The other option is Camping World and they have the worst reviews on repairs out there. So, we will probably wait and get it done when we return to Florida unless there is an opening that can work into our schedule in Virginia or in North Carolina when we start our return to Florida.
Tomorrow we are headed to Raven Rock State Park for some hiking. (and birding of course!)
