September 27
We parked in the same lot as when we were taking the HOHO as
it is convenient to walk to the French Quarter. It was another rainy day, but
umbrella in hand off we went.
Mardi Gras beads
We opted to try a different place for Beignets, as reviews
said they were equally as tasty. Not even in the same ballpark was our opinion.
So, Café Du Monde wins hands down, no matter how long the line is to get in.
This place did have a nice atmosphere and has a larger menu.
Café Beignet
We sat out here until it started to pour and we ran inside and there was a large table with only 1 girl at it and she said we were welcome. Another couple also joined and we chatted until the rain slowed.
cute kitty near our table
We then walked to Louis Armstrong Park and walked around.
Would have been a great park if it hadn’t been so rainy. We spotted the trolley
and found out that for $3.00 per day you could have a day pass. It was a great
way to get around between different areas surrounding the French Quarter.

We spent some time on Bourbon Street on our way to Johnny’s
Po’boys. We decided to go back there and split the Muffuletta. It wasn’t quite
as good this time, since they didn’t grill it long enough to get the thick part
of meat in the middle hot, but still darn good.
back on Bourbon Street
this guy played "drums" on the buckets and was really good - worth a tip for sure
another location of Café Beignet
nice catfish!
We went to Walgreens to get one of my RX’s filled, but was
told that if they transferred the script there it would have to be filled there
the next time too. (they aren’t allowed to transfer it again) So, they took the
liberty to contact my doctor who OK’d 10 days worth as a vacation supply. Our
next stop is back in Florida, so it should be OK to fill it there.
we're in Walgreens waiting out the rain - the vehicle is a scam, not real weed..... (we Googled it while we were waiting)
We stopped at Palace Café which is owned by Brennan’s to
have their Bananas Foster. They have an inside restaurant as well as sidewalk
seating, so we opted for al fresco under the awning away from the rain. The
waiter said we could have bananas foster there, but they couldn’t make it
tableside. We said we didn’t care. When he was getting ready to make it he came
out and said he set the cart up inside in the best spot that he could so we
could watch it being made from our table. Too funny.
Wow, I’m so glad we tried it there as it was the BEST
Bananas Foster we have EVER had. He cooked it a long time and the bananas were
just right and more flavor all the way around. We told him he did a terrific
job and he said each time he makes it he treats it as a challenge. All the same
ingredients, just the right touch in cooking it. It ice cream was in a small
cone shape which kept it out of the hot sauce and that helped to not dilute it.
We went back to finish walking Bourbon Street. Stopped into
a store or 2. One young lady commented to us as she walked past us that “it’s
great to see that young love still exists”.
band playing for tips
I was taking a photo of this guy working for tips with
people that might want their photo taken with him. He saw me and came right
over. Busted. He was really nice and said we reminded him of his parents. He
had Greg pose with him. There were bands playing on street corners for tips.
There were lots of people walking in the streets (mind you it’s before 5:00)
and one guy had a beer in each hand yelling “2 fisted f-ing drinker” I said to
Greg “it’s drunk O’clock somewhere”.
no clue what this was.....
made me think of Jim & Jennifer
We stopped at a place and grabbed a couple of brownies to
take home for dessert that night and grabbed the trolley close to the parking
lot where the car was parked. Despite the rain, we had a great last day in
NOLA.
Tomorrow, we have a birding day scheduled.
