St Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum & Greek Festival - St. Augustine, FL

October 14

The Lighthouse is across the bridge on Anastasia Island. It turned out to be more than just climbing the lighthouse as it had several buildings with small museums which were interesting. They also had some short walking trails. We walked the short trails and toured all of the buildings before climbing the stairs in the lighthouse.

Their was a cute story on one level of the lighthouse showing what the son of the lightkeeper did with his sister's cat. He found out cats can float when he attached the cat to a parachute and dropped him from the top of the lighthouse. The cat survived. His sister didn’t learn of this until they were older adults.Probably a smart decision or she may have attached a small parachute to her brother and dropped HIM off of the top…..

The Greek Festival turned out to be quite small, but the food and music were really good. We stood in the long lines to get food and then had them under the tent watching the dancing and listening to the Greek music. Greg got the combo platter of Pastitsio, Dolomathes, Spanakopita, Greek salad, rice and pita bread and I had a gyro. We grabbed a couple of baklava for dessert and then walked around the tents selling things. Oddly, someone was there selling stock market advice. YIKES!
Since there really wasn’t very much to see there, we got some 2 baklava and a Diples to take home. I forgot to take a photo of the yummy desserts before we chowed them down.

We headed home to prepare for our last destination on this journey. We are just over 200 miles away from PSL, so, we are on our last leg of this journey.
