February 8, 2013 Sea Day

Another hot and sunny day! We saw huge pods of dolphins that appeared to be in a feeding frenzy. First we spotted the fish jumping out of the water and then just tons of dolphins leaping out of the water. Just awesome! We saw some from our balcony and more again at dinner.  Some people said they saw some whales out further, but we didn’t see them.

We talked to some people that did the overland to Machu Picchu. One CC group booked independently and the other booked through Princess. Several people got pretty sick. Some with altitude sickness, some with bronchitis, others with intestinal issues. One group was like us yesterday and almost missed the ship. They booked their trip independently and even though their flight was the first flight of the day, they kept getting delayed, but the Princess group scheduled to take off a couple hours after them was able to take off.
Lunch was very good today with stuffed calamari with a garlic mayo sauce for an appetizer and I had Teriyaki Chicken and Greg had Paella. Oh, and banana splits for dessert! Great dinner conversation with a couple who are also “homeless”. They live in an RV when they aren’t cruising and split time between Colorado and Florida. They were interested in our decision process in choosing Panama and understood not having a home base that people seem to expect that you “need”. She used to be a cyclist so she and Greg had that in common.
Spent time in the sun after lunch and before you know it, it’s time to get ready for dinner and the evening show. The show was the first production show of the trip. With such a small ship and intimate show lounge, we all wondered how that would work, but they did a fantastic job with only 2 singers (instead of the usual 4) and just 6 dancers. They performed a show called “Rock This Town” which spanned songs from the 50’s to the 70’s (or early 80’s).
Despite the stressful ending to our tour yesterday, several people told me how much they enjoyed the tour, especially the ruins.
Our second of 4 sea days tomorrow! We both will get less sun since it didn’t take long in this intense sun to get a bit of a burn.
