Jekyll Island, GA - Day 3

Monday, October 23rd we stayed home. It really didn’t rain all that much, but we needed a day off anyway. I slept in after not getting much sleep the night before so that felt good.

Tuesday the 24th is our last day here and honestly not that much new to do here. So, we headed back to Jekyll Island for some more birding at Jekyll Island and some new areas near Brunswick.
 immature White Ibises
 Western Sandpiper

American Redstart - this little guy was leaping about catching insects

alligator in the marsh with a tracking tag

water park (not open this time of year)
 dolphins near the shore
 Nick's Country Buffet

small but very tasty food - really good fried chicken and fried pork chop and tasty vegetables. I hadn't eaten rutabaga since I was a kid. Good steamed mixed veggies too
they canceled the Shrimp & Grits festival, but are having a "Shrimpmas" festival instead
 Tri-colored Heron

we returned to a different section of Driftwood Beach

St. Simons Island from Jekyll Island
 CAtbird
Jekyll Deer - they are kind of a mixed breed since years ago deer were brought in from other areas

On the way home we passed a line-up of 20 or 30 police cars and an ambulance at a Gas Station and a Dairy Queen. We found out later an officer shot someone as they were running away. The guy that was shot was medevacked to Jacksonville and is in good condition and has been charged with multiple felonies.

Tomorrow we travel to the Valdosta area of Georgia.
