NC Museum of History - Raleigh, NC

Monday Oct 8th we drove to Raleigh (around an hour from here) to visit the NC History Museum. It's across from the Museum of Natural Sciences that we visited when we stayed near Raleigh. The weather was supposed to be rainy today so we thought a museum would fit the bill, but it turned out to be a nice day. We enjoyed learning about the history of NC.
We stopped at the Historic Yates Mill County Park for about a half hour to look for birds on the boardwalk area and hopefully beavers. No beavers and no new birds, but we got a much better look at the Yellow-billed Cuckoo.

The first floor of the museum is all about the history of NC. There were smaller exhibits on the History of Fashion and Tiffany Glass through the years. They also had a Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s race car.

We stopped part way through the NC History part to have lunch Pharaoh's at the Museum and then returned to finish that part.
Robson-Moore-Whichard-Taylor House (4th oldest dwelling in North Carolina built in 1742) Started out as one room and another room was added in 1750.

When we got to the tobacco industry of NC, I found the advertisements quite interesting.
now THAT is the perfect ad to sell tobacco...

It was getting late in the day and we wanted to go back to the other museum to visit the butterfly enclosure that was closed when we visited. As luck would have it, it also is closed on Mondays. Ah well. So, we had an afternoon break of a cold soda and we split a brownie. We did take a photo of
the bird we have been looking for.

We then went to visit the upper floor of the museum that houses temporary exhibits. They had North Carolina and WWl, The Boomer List (photos of 1 famous person from each year), 1920’s Drug Store, American Red Cross: Healing the Warrior’s Heart through Art, 1903 Wright Flyer and 1911 Wright Glider.

David Marshall "Carbine" Williams worked in a one-room workshop and his inventions helped the U.S. military through the Grerat Depression and WWll

There were some smaller exhibits that we didn’t go to. It was getting a bit late in the afternoon and we were trying to shop for a grill and make it to dinner before it got too late.

Went to 2 places that said online that they had the grill, but one only had display models and the other one had one in an open box that was filthy. (looked like it had been returned.) So, we’ll wait until tomorrow and see if we can get it in Fayetteville.

We are looking for a small grill for travel and have decided on the Weber Q and we will use small canisters of propane until we can get the hose that will allow it to be connected to our RV and use the propane tank on board. (needs to be regulated properly)
Had a great dinner at Longhorn. Love their Outlaw bone-in Rib-eye.
Tomorrow, we are going to go back to Weymouth Nature Reserve.
