June 9
We don’t normally travel on a Saturday and the slow traffic
and traffic backups were incredible. Then, we stop at the Flying J for some
diesel and it’s the worst “fuster-cluck” we have ever seen there. Normally, the
RV lanes only have RVs in them, but today there were a lot of cars and small
trucks. Many of them going in the lanes the wrong way. For some reason there
was a truck full of people that were at the pump and did not move. They were
out of their truck and eating lunch and laughing. The RV behind them left a ton
of room and it forced us to block the small driveway. Cars couldn’t get out
until that line moved. Add to that there were cars lined up in front of the
truck trying to come in from that direction, but the truck needs to pull forward
since the RVs towing cars, can’t back up. Finally, the RV in front of us bails
and moves into the next lane over. (good thing he had left a lot of room between him and the truck people that weren't leaving) We moved ahead and got behind him. Meanwhile,
the truck with all the people are still just hanging out and laughing and
having a good time. The guy in front of us was there like 15 minutes. Not sure
what he was doing at the pump.
Finally, we get to go back on the road and join
the rest of the traffic. Normally, it is pretty smooth at the Flying J with the
cars/small trucks using their pumps and the RVs use their lanes. Truckers have
their own area that we can use, but for truckers, time is money and they want
to pump and go…whereas RVers are a bit slower…just not as slow as todays mess!
We passed through Birmingham on the way.
Not our most miles on the road in a day, but the longest time.
Anyway, we finally arrived at Northgate RV Travel Park. It’s a small park, but nice pull
through spaces and level. We are here for 1 day and 2 nights.

Short & sweet post today. It is such a small area it was hard to get in much of an evening walk. It's right off the highway, so nowhere to venture out.
Greg has been to Huntsville many times for work. We plan to
drive around the area and visit Madison County Nature Trail-Green Mountain
& Huntsville Botanical Gardens.
