Bighorn National Forest, Sibley Lake & Prune Creek - Wyoming

Aug 11
We saw lots of Pronghorn along the way. Large and small herds in crop fields. The Bighorn Scenic Byway (US 14) connects the cities of Sheridan and Greybull and includes 45 miles of scenic mountain driving.

Today we had about the same plan as yesterday only on the other byway between Cody & Sheridan. It has a lot more tight curves through the mountains than the route we took yesterday. It would have been much harder to do in the coach.
Next we checked out Sibley Lake:

We then checked out the Prune Creek area and hiked a “blue diamond” trail. The hiking trails are all ski slopes in the winter. We saw a few birds, but no critters other than chipmunks and squirrels.

We didn’t know where we would find lunch as there is nothing unless you are at either end of the drive. We did see a lodge and hoped they had food. Arrowhead Lodge was a very nice spot and the server there was working very hard. He made sure we always had full sodas and the food was very good. Greg had the smoked brisket and I had the pulled pork. My pork was good, but the brisket was the best either of us have ever tasted. Tender, smoky and juicy. They weren’t afraid to use some spice either. The beans and the BBQ sauce were spicy and tasty. There was a lodge there, some cabins you can rent and an RV park.

On the way home we stopped in Sheridan since it’s a bigger city than Buffalo to stock up on some groceries and then headed home.

Tomorrow, we are returning to the other scenic byway to check out some hiking trails. (and maybe find the moose again)
