Cody Nite Rodeo & The Cody Cattle Company Dinner & Show

August 5

We slept in and had a relaxing day until it was time to leave for dinner and a show before going to the Rodeo. It was supposed to be cold and rainy in Yellowstone, plus we needed a break from the early mornings and the late nights.

Dinner was all you could eat chicken, beef brisket, baked potatoes, baked beans, apple sauce, corn bread, Caesar salad, Cole slaw, brownies, lemonade, coffee and water. The food was very good. The entertainment was Ryan Martin and the Triple C Cowboys. https://www.thecodycattlecompany.com/

While they added a lot of humor to the show, they were very talented musicians. Two of them were from Mesa and Apache Junction in Arizona. (close to where we lived) It was a fun show with a great dinner. There was a large crowd of teens from Iowa there and the band had a fun time interacting with them. Saying they probably had never heard of any of the music they played. Then, he asked one of them if he knew who “the man in black” was. He did not. He joked that anyone that hadn’t heard of Johnny Cash was “just bad parenting”. Some kids in the past guessed Batman (just a joke, I think) or Will Smith (Men in Black).

he brought up a kid from the audience to ring the dinner bell

From there we drove the couple minutes next door to the Cody Nite Rodeo.  https://www.codystampederodeo.com/

They put on a great rodeo every night. It was a bit cold out, but I layered and kept warm enough despite the wind that came up blowing right in our faces. It was a fun time and they had rodeo cowboys from other states perform as well as some local talent. They did the usual bucking bronco riding, calf roping and riding, bull riding and clown stuff. They had a cute intermission where they invited all young kids to participate in grabbing the bows from 2 calves tails to win prizes. Funny to watch them scramble after them. The rodeo lasted about an  hour and a half to 2 hours.

It was really too dark to get good photos and the action was fast. Lots of blurred photos....

Cody is the "Rodeo Capitol of the World." From the turn of the century, rodeos and parades have been part of the 4th of July here in Cody, Wyoming. Officially starting in 1919, the Cody Stampede rodeo has been held every summer this event established Cody as not only one of the longest running successful professional rodeos, but also the only place in the country that has a rodeo performance nightly.

Tomorrow, we are headed back for our 4th visit to Yellowstone to fill in some gaps of the places we visited.
