Nine
bays bordered by 36 golden-sand beaches form the beautiful Las Bahias de
Huatulco in the state of Oaxaca. Huatulco is located where the foothills of the
Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains meet the Pacific Ocean.
It
was our first time to Huatulco and I set up a sport fishing trip with Tino. We
have done a lot of ocean fishing on boats that were “bottom fishing” for
grouper etc., but never sport fishing. Princess had shortened this port by an
hour, so it was another short day.

We
were first off the ship again today and Tino was standing there with a sign
with our names on it. We walked the short distance to his boat. (named Snook) His
boat is 25 feet long with cushions and a shade canopy. It was quite
comfortable. They fish with 5 lines with Penn International reels, life vests,
GPS, radio communication, music and drinks.

We
used the local bathroom before boarding since there isn’t one on the boat.
We
hadn’t gone very far before we heard “FISH ON”. I had a hard time reeling in my
Bonito. Greg got one on at the same time. They tossed our fish back in after we
got photos. Then we caught 2 more. They decided to keep those and give them to
a father & son fishing from some rocks. I wondered how the heck he was
going to get the fish to them since if we got too close the boat would bash
into the rocks. Tino called to the boy and had him cast his line towards the
boat. Tino then grabbed the line out of the water and tied the 2 fish to his
hook and then the boy reeled them in. They were thankful for the fish. I caught
one more fish and since it was on the shorter rod it was much easier to pull
in. They really weren’t large Bonito, but they sure put up a fight.

Tony
cut up a watermelon and we all had some. Tasted just like the ones we got in
Panama. Tony sprinkled some pepper powder on it which tasted very good.
Tino
asked if we wanted “action” or to go to deep water for the big fish. We opted
to try for a big one. I’m not sure I could have pulled in too many more Bonito
anyway.
We
saw dozens of Leatherback turtles and even 2 that were mating…..turtle porn….
We
lost count of the many pods of dolphins all around us. We also saw a stingray
and a water snake. There were tons of birds all around as well.
The
fish however were not biting. At one point, Tino saw a Dorado (Mahi Mahi) and
thought he had one on the line, but it either wasn’t on or got away. It was fun
to watch him spring into action. They tried really hard and were talking with
other boats to see if anyone had had any luck.
Even
though we didn’t catch “the big one”, it was a beautiful day out on the water
and Tino and Tony were super guys.
back on shore
We
got back with an hour before all aboard and didn’t think we had enough time to
eat on shore, so I grabbed my token magnet and we headed back to the ship and
grabbed a bite on board. Then, used our free internet by using our phones as
hot spots. I got caught up on a few emails.
from the ship
At
dinner we all caught up on what everyone did. Everyone had a great time ashore.
Dinner was quite good again. The show tonight was an encore presentation of the
pianist Linda Gentile.
We
went to the trivia after the show and it was either Discovery or Animal Planet
theme. We played for real again (we normally just play for fun) and won again.
Actually, we tied with another team (we were a team of 2 and they were a team
of 5) and they had a tie breaker question that we both got right. So, we all
got the prize of Princess bags.

We
have one sea day before reaching Puerto Vallarta.
Hey Annette! you are quite the 'fisherlady'!!
