Buffalo Museum, Frontier Village, Saint James Basilica & Fort Seward - Jamestown, North Dakota

July 19

Today started with a trip to a local walk-in clinic. My sinus infection is back with a vengeance and I knew I needed a stronger RX. We also woke to rain as it had rained all night. The clinic was new and not busy, so that didn’t take too long. Hopefully, this sinus thing will get better soon.
We killed time before going to lunch in town (just fast food) and hoped the rain would stop before we explored the sites here in Jamestown.
We started at the Buffalo Museum which had a great film on the history of the Bison & how they were almost extinct until Theodore Roosevelt started conservation efforts. Thanks to ranching on private land & nature preserves the numbers are up. We saw the largest Buffalo statue and their herd of Bison that included an adult white buffalo and a young white one. The museum was well done. The rain had mostly stopped and we checked out the Frontier Village that had buildings from various areas showing how life was during early Jamestown. Louis L'Amour dad’s favorite author. He would have loved this frontier town with his display and the print shop since he used to have one. (the printing press was almost the same as he had)

We went for a photo op of Saint James Basilica and drove to Fort Seward which was a 1 room museum and there really is nothing of the site left. (signs & plaques only)

So, a fairly easy day for us. We did need to come back and prepare to leave for our next stop in western North Dakota where we will spend a few days in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
