Pine Island State Wildlife Area - Portage, Wisconsin

July 7

It’s our last day here in Wisconsin, so we planned a short day so we had time to come back and get ready to leave tomorrow.

The Pine Island State Wildlife Area lies in the floodplains of the Wisconsin and Baraboo rivers and includes several islands of the Wisconsin River. Not many good shots today as the birds we saw were pretty far away. Lots of Catbirds close and they were loud. We briefly saw a turkey and a deer.

Ha, no pheasant hunting after 2:00... Is there a pheasants union or something?
 Northern Flicker
 American Goldfinch
 Cowbird

don't know what kind of Sparrow this is

 Eastern Wood-Pewee
 Red-tailed Hawk?

Duck & Ducklings - probably Mallard or Black Ducks
 Wisconsin River

 Ring-billed Gulls

Tomorrow, we are off to Flying Goose Campground in Fairmont, Minnesota for 4 nights.
Wisconsin & Minnesota are not new states for either of us, but you do have to go through them to get to states where we haven't been.
