July 15
For many people North Dakota is their 50th (last) state
to visit when collecting states. There is even a club for those who visit it
last. This won’t be the case for us, but it is a first visit for both of us.
We woke to pouring rain. The radar looked like it would pass
in about a half hour or so, so we got a later start than usual. Doing all the
things outside needed to be done to leave would have left us soaked if it had to be done in the driving rain. Thank
goodness it was just a slight drizzle when we were hooking up the toad.
We passed a horrendous car accident on the drive. I’m sure
people died. There was a pickup that was upside down and a camper shell in
another direction and another car that they were trying to get someone out. In
another area people seemed to be attending to someone in the tall grass that we
couldn’t see. Yikes, it looked like one crossed from the other side of the road
and took out the other vehicle. Very sobering experience to see that up close and personal.
We saw very few corn & soybean fields and we saw more
prairie and fields with grains like oats, barley and wheat. So, the scenery has
changed a bit. As we continue west it should change even more.
We stopped in Fargo “Don'tcha know” for diesel. They had no
RV lanes so we had to use the trucker’s lanes. They tend to be messier since
they pump something like 4 times faster than RV lanes (which pump faster than
diesel for cars) and diesel splashes out. So, not something you want to track
back into your coach. Plus, truckers are generally in a hurry to get back on
the road.
We arrived via a long gravel road at the RV Park and a very nice couple greeted us and one took us to our side leading the way on their bicycle. It's another small park, but has nice facilities and a hiking trail around the grounds which we did for our evening walk.

**Update on the accident. It was reported on the news and I found this online:
"Three people are dead, including a 5-year-old Fargo girl
following a two-vehicle accident on Interstate-29 Sunday.
The crash happened 5 miles south of Hankinson around 11:15
A.M. The 2003 Chevrolet, driven by a 15-year-old from West Fargo, was heading
southbound on I-29. A 2000 Buick, driven by a 24-year-old Fargo female, was
driving northbound.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the 15-year-old driver
went off the east edge of the road, over corrected and lost control of the
vehicle. The Chevrolet crossed the median and struck the Buick. The Chevrolet
rolled over and came to rest on its top in the east ditch. The Buick also came
to rest in the east ditch.
The 15-year-old driver was injured and transported to
Essentia Health. A 45-year-old passenger of West Fargo, in the Chevrolet was
pronounced dead on scene.
The 4-year-old male passenger of the Buick was injured and
flown to Sanford Hospital. The 24-year-old female driver and a 5-year-old
female passenger were pronounced dead on the scene. The crash is still under
investigation."
Tomorrow, we have a change in plans due to my "tech issues" and will drive to Fargo.
