July 11
The chain of lakes includes Amber Lake, Hall Lake, Budd
Lake, Sisseton Lake and Lake George.
We had a nice walk from the park we started from taking us
past many homes along the lakes, and then through a neighborhood and then past
a very nice grassland area.

The trail continued past there through some woods
and we had just passed a sign that said bicycle path, so we kept going. Not far
after that sign, the trail dead-ended. On the map we had (from the visitor’s
center) showed it looping around back to the park area where we started. Greg
got on Google Maps and it was really a short distance left to go, so we thought
we could “bush-wack” our way and connect with the trail on the other side. It
didn’t take long to realize that wasn’t a brilliant idea. Maybe with long pants
and hiking boots, but we were dressed in shorts and the grasses were cutting our
legs and there was no path to be seen. So, we had no choice but to turn around
and walk all the way back. It was lunch time and hot out at this point. Since
Greg walks faster than I do, I stayed at the park with the shade and the
bathrooms and he went to get the car. (what a guy!) It seems they just haven’t finished the
trail since there were a few stakes in the ground, but not yet if ever.
We were at lunch by around 1:00ish. We stopped at Channel
Inn for lunch that sits right on the lake. We split a fried pork tenderloin and
a shrimp po’boy and tater tots of course.

The downtown area really wasn’t much, we drove through and
stopped at a spot that I hoped would have a magnet of Minnesota. It was a
pharmacy/gift shop and sure enough it did.

One last stop at Walmart for stuff and things and then home
to get ready to move tomorrow. It should be almost as long a drive as it took to get
here. We are making a short stop at Summit, South Dakota on our way to North
Dakota. We will stop on the way back for a longer stay where the major sites
are in South Dakota.
