Sea Day - February 9

Sea Day - February 9

Sadly, we are missing Nuku’alofa, Tonga today. Below are the links to the tours that I set up should anyone wish to book with them some time. Both were responsive and helpful and since I have now had to cancel their tours twice, they have been very understanding. I wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again.

There was no Bingo today for some reason. I guess it’s because it was supposed to be a port day, but not sure why that would matter, now that it is a normal sea day. They did however have a fast Nightro Bingo at 8:00 in the evening. (either right during your evening entertainment or during your meal depending on your dining time) Not sure why they couldn’t have done that in the same timeslot that regular snowball bingo would have been.

Oddly, it was the first time we could eat in the dining room for lunch when it first opened. OK, that wasn’t the odd part, lunch took 2 hours and we got out later than when we go late because of Bingo. Not sure why the service was so slow today.

Some birding on the ship by Greg:

The swells are high today and it has rained a fair amount today. I walked inside today as the weather was way too ugly to walk outside and they eventually closed the track after the rain started.

We had lunch with Dwain and several other people from previous world cruises.

We were invited to Bob & Phyllis’ suite for a party this afternoon. He had about 14 of us and it was a fun get together. Many of us were early seating and left earlier.

We learned some very sad and surprising news, however. Judy & Charles were the ones that kept the roll call on Cruise Critic and this was their first world cruise. They had joined 3 of my tours. We had the first one in Raiatea and they went snorkeling with us. Judy passed away the very next day. She was only 63. Not sure of the cause yet. There is a memorial for her tomorrow morning in the Cabaret Lounge. I can’t imagine how shocked & devastated Charles must be. We hardly knew them, and we are stunned. (I waited to post this as he wanted to make sure in Auckland he had talked with the rest of the family)

Dinner went faster than lunch. We have had very good service so far on this cruise. They both are new in that they still work breakfast and lunch as well as dinner. (in some combination) In 2017 we also had superb service with Tommy. He was pretty senior and didn’t work breakfast. At lunch he just helped out where needed. He is working the Club Class section on this cruise, but he does a lot of the wine tastings and other things around the dining room. One day at lunch our waitress forgot to bring my Diet Coke and Tommy walked by and saw a Coke on the wait station and grabbed it and asked me if it was mine. He remembered that I drank Diet Coke from 2017. He also asked if we were still living in Panama and where were living now. I’m amazed at the memories of the servers since they wait on a lot of people from cruise to cruise and it’s been 2 years since he has seen us.

We decided to go to the Nightro Bingo session at 8:00 and catch the last part of the evening show. Holy cow, I won! It was one game for $10 and the payout was $250.00 So, I’m almost caught up with Greg. Our total is now $949.00.

The evening show was a second show by Michael Young the instrumentalist. He is quite fun to watch. He mainly plays the banjo and puts on a great show.

There was an indoor 50’s & 60’s dance party tonight which we skipped.

The Captain is going way south to miss the worst of the bad weather. We are having some pretty large swells, however. (though really not bad to us)

Tomorrow, we have another relaxing sea day.
